EDIT:
The data centre move that was scheduled for this Saturday 30th of November has been postponed due to a technical issue outside our control. As a result, there will be no scheduled outage this weekend.
We will advise a new time for the relocation in the coming days.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
We've just transferred to a brand new server, and now the entire data centre where our server is hosted is getting an upgrade, too! There will be an outage while the move takes place. Read more to find out why this is happening and how it effects your site.
On the eleventh of November, Rhye Media made the change to a new server which is now entirely dedicated to the websites we host. The full migration was successful, with only fifteen minutes of downtime and all of our websites fully functioning immediately after the old server was switched off.
Now, just a few weeks later, the entire data centre where our server is hosted is being relocated. While the service will still be hosted in Melbourne, they're moving to a tier-III datacentre.
This upgrade comes complete with additional network and infrastructure redundancy, meaning that if a failure occurs anywhere within the system there are back-up programs in place to ensure that services continue uninterrupted. As well as helping to prevent network problems from occurring in the first place, this quick-response back-up system reacts immediately to any failures in the data path, reducing the effects of the issue and ensuring that it's fixed as quickly as possible.
The change of location also means there'll be increased security for all servers and applications, particularly those with online shopping. The system meets the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS); This is an information security standard which was created to reduce credit card fraud and ensure that all types of cardholder information and secure and used for their stated purposes. Data is protected by a firewall, non-default passwords, encrypted transmission, up-to-date virus security software, staff access to card information being limited to a need-to-know basis and the constant monitoring, testing and maintenance of security systems and processes.
The move will take place on Saturday 30th of November, from 10:00pm to 2:00am inclusive (AEDT). Within this time frame, there will be two hours (approximately) where all sites that we host will be offline and all services (including email) will be unavailable. Don't make any changes to your site from approximately 9.30pm until the server is back online, as they will be lost in the migration.
When the transfer is complete all services should resume as normal.
